Well, it’s finally here.
Look, let’s just cut right to the important stuff. The trailer. The trailer for Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel has arrived and if you’ve seen The Dark Knight Rises this weekend (or, like me, have seen it 3 times) then you’ve had the displeasure of having to watch this mess.
Here’s my problem with this trailer: it’s inauthentic. Nothing about this trailer is genuine; there is a false sense of storytelling and empathy that’s trying to be evoked from the audience. Do you get what I’m trying to say? This is Zack Snyder’s attempt to get people to finally take him seriously but instead I’m laughing. Oh, you’re Terrance Malick now? How about the first shot that’s stolen right from Inception? Oh, alright. And now I’m supposed to care for Superman all of sudden with this voiceover mixed with the cheap visuals? Please. How about that funnel that is under Superman when he flies through the sky. I can’t. I can’t deal with this stupid trailer. And I’m supposed to pretend and get hyped for a Superman movie from the man who brought us Sucker Punch? Hold on!
And this is what is the worst part of it all: how many times am I supposed to be told about Superman’s origins and pretend to care? I’ve said it before and I’ll never stop saying it: there is no place for Superman in this current superhero landscape. And in addition to that, Superman is SO BORING. I do not care about him.
Stop trying to make Superman happen.
